Consulting & Contracting in The Netherlands

As we are all former ICT contractors and consultants who started this company,  we believe that we can identify and understand your situation more than most. We have over 30 years of work experience in the Netherlands, and are more than happy to share our knowledge.  Some of you will be familiar with the regulations that have been implemented over the last 10 years in relation to the working procedures  in The Netherlands, but for those who are here for the first time or who are thinking of coming here, then we hope that we can help and guide you through the labyrinth of all the government regulations (such as, the 30% ruling in Holland or how Dutch taxes work). We hope that we are one of the first organisations with whom you can truly trust to make sure that your stay here will be one to be remembered.

Adapting to life here is quite easy as nearly everybody speaks English, but unlike before, if you visited as a tourist,  you are now here to work and that means also undertaking and understanding  all of the fiscal and legal regulations required to carry out your job. This is where we believe that by contacting us your stay here will be made less complicated as we show you the way.

First and Foremost:

There are may be many reasons why you want to work here, but probably one of your most important expectations is that you get paid for the work that you have done and that you get paid on time.  Secondly,  you also want to make sure that what you are being paid is correct and that there are no hidden factors which you do not understand, or were never mentioned or told to you by either your agency or supplier.  With regard to your payslip, this  should be clear and concise. Most of you should ask your payroll company for a complete translation of the payslip if this is not already in English, so that you can be assured that the figures are correct. Contact us for your free Dutch payroll calculator which will help you estimate your net monthly salary.

We guarantee and will prove to you that everything we show you is compliant with all Dutch tax rules in Holland as well as Dutch legal requirements. We fully understand that you need to settle in as quickly as possible and not be confronted 6 weeks later with “where is my money?” or “you never told me that when I first started,” etc.

Our mission is to ensure that we get it right First Time Every Time!

Three very Important Factors for you to know:

  1. We are considerably cheaper than any other payroll organisation in the Netherlands for contractors and consultants.
  2. We will pay you on receipt of your signed timesheet. We have NO delays in payment.
  3. We will not charge you for applying for the 30% ruling on your behalf.

The laws in the Netherlands have changed considerably over the last 10 years regarding contractor payments. In fact it has not only changed here, but across all the EEC zones. Contractors are now fully aware that they have to pay tax in the country where the work is performed and that there is no longer anyway around this. Currently, only The Netherlands offers a unique regulation for skilled workers. This is the 30% ruling. This tax ruling applies to workers who possess skills which are scarce in the Dutch labour pool. The first 30% of gross salary earned is exempt from Dutch taxes. This exemption  lasts for a period of 10 years, and is reviewed every 5 years. It is therefore important that when you finish your current contract in The Netherlands that you advise the Tax Authorities about this when you leave, so that if or when when you come back the remaining years can be reactivated.

 Health Insurance:

When you come here to work, then it is obvious, that you are not on holiday.  So your travel health insurance or your private health insurance is NOT valid.  Dutch law states that all consultants and contractors who work in The Netherlands need to have private Dutch health insurance. Should you not purchase Dutch health insurance you may incur costly fines. Dutch Pal has signed up with a private Dutch insurance company through which you can insure yourself for a reasonable premium while working in the Netherlands.

Tax Authorities and other legal and Fiscal Issues, including Accommodation:

Individuals who come to work in the Netherlands require a Tax Identification Number called the BSN or Sofi-Number. If you have worked here previously, you will already have been issued this number. You cannot get paid or even apply for the 30% Ruling without it. Dutch Pal is registered with the Expat Center and the Immigration and Naturalisation Service. The Expat Center now offers a one stop shop, where expats can go to take care of all transition needs. It is a place where you can go to obtain your Tax Identificaton Number, apply for the 30% ruling, register with the local authorities, obtain Visa’s (if required), obtain help in finding accommodation, etc. Dutch Pal will accompany you to the Expat Center to assure your smooth transition to moving to the Netherlands.
